On Sunday the Professional Footballers Association (PFA) released their Premier League Team of the Year, as voted for by the players.

Champions elect Chelsea dominated the list as six of their players (Branislav Ivanovic, John Terry, Gary Cahill, Nemanja Matic, Eden Hazard and Diego Costa) were named in the eleven. Tottenham’s Harry Kane joins Costa up front, while Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand slots in at left back, Manchester United’s David de Gea is in goal and attacking talents Alexis Sanchez and Philippe Coutinho complete the squad.
But, does anybody else think the Chelsea dominance just isn’t right?
Sure, Mourinho’s boys have put in several stunning defensive displays but did three of their back four deserve to be in the team of the year? Cahill has struggled and even lost his place in the team during the season, while Ivanovic has scored some timely goals but has been solid, if not spectacular, at right back.
In midfield, players like Santi Cazorla and Cesc Fabregas have flourished at different times this season and could both be disappointed to not get the nod, while Sergio Aguero and David Silva from Manchester City may also be feeling hard done by.
Below is a list of 10 players who could have definitely made the PFA’s Best XI. Agree? Disagree?
10 players who could’ve made PFA Team of the Season
Sergio Aguero - Man City’s striker has missed plenty of the season through injury but is still the top scorer in the PL. Remarkable omission.
Jose Fonte - Saints’ leader and captain, Fonte is 31 and has had a breakout season which has seen him make the Portuguese national team. He is the main reason Saints have the best defense in the PL.
Santi Cazorla - Arsenal’s incredible second half of the season has centered around this guy. Cazorla has formed a formidable partnership with Francis Coquelin in the center of midfield but his silky passing hasn’t been appreciated by everyone...
Cesar Azpilicueta - The Chelsea left back is so reliable and each and every game he bombs up and down the wing. The Spaniard is actually a right back, which also aids his cause as a team of the season candidate.
Nathaniel Clyne - Speaking of right back, how has Clyne not made the team? The Saints youngster is now the starter at RB for the English national team, has scored some stunning goals and always offers a threat going forward.
Cesc Fabregas - Another Chelsea star, Fabregas dominated games up until January when he started to look a little jaded and suffered some injuries. Still, the way he started the season mustn’t be forgotten.
Fraser Forster - A horrendous knee injury ended Forster’s season, but Saints’ stopper has the most clean sheets of any goalkeeper and has forced his way into the England reckoning. Second best ‘keeper in the league behind De Gea, but Thibaut Courtois and Hugo Lloris can also be considered.
David Silva - City’s “Dav the Wizard” has popped up time and time again to inspire wins. Due to their poor run in the second half of the season, perhaps Silva has been overlooked. Any team in the world would live to employ the silky Spanish creator.
Martin Skrtel - Liverpools’ defense has improved vastly from last season and the Slovakian skipper has marshaled the backline superbly. Skrtel has been dominant in the air and in the tackle. Worth a shout.
Wayne Rooney - United’s captain has played in midfield, up front and out wide during Louis van Gaal’s first season in charge. He is United’s top scorer in the PL with 12 goals.
