The valuable inside ‘backer has a chance to start if Donnie Edwards finds a new home this season. He’d battle Matt Wilhelm to run with the ones.

Cooper was a sparingly-used special teamer that had one tackle through the first five games while playing through a torn biceps.

Original reports suggests Cooper would be released, but the Chargers will place him on I.R. before likely reaching an injury settlement. The 32-year-old’s San Diego career may be over after spending all nine NFL seasons with the Chargers.

Cooper is a solid reserve LB for the Chargers, not your fantasy team.

Cooper is a bona fide playmaker and has huge IDP potential in the position formerly manned by Randall Godfrey. Matt Wilhelm, his sidekick at Donnie Edwards’ old MIKE spot, recorded five stops and also fell on a fumble.

Wilhelm, who is playing the MIKE position in San Diego, is expected to lead the team in stops. Stephen Cooper should get more pass-rushing chances.
