Rams signed C Tim Barnes to a reserve/future contract.
An undrafted free agent out of Missouri in 2011, Barnes bounced around practice squads in his “rookie” year. He’ll have an outside chance at a roster spot in 2012. The Rams are likely to overhaul their offensive line this offseason.
  • FA Guard #64
The Rams will hold an open competition at left guard in training camp.
It’s a potentially huge trouble spot for a line already among the league’s worst at the other four positions. “We’ve got a lot of options, and we’ll continue to rotate guys in there,” said coach Jeff Fisher. Options include former practice squad player Bryan Mattison, undersized center Tim Barnes, ex-Jet special teamer Rob Turner, and mammoth rookie project Rokevious Watkins.

Rams promoted C Tim Barnes from their practice squad.
24-year-old Barnes is a former undrafted free agent out of Mizzou. He’s an insurance policy with Scott Wells (fractured foot) out until at least midseason.

Rams tendered exclusive rights free agents C Tim Barnes and TE Mike McNeill.
Signed off the practice squad in Week 2, Barnes ended up appearing in 15 games, but played just one snap on offense. A special teamer and blocker, McNeill caught four passes across 14 games.

Rams re-signed exclusive rights free agents C Tim Barnes, WR Justin Veltung, and QB Austin Davis.
Barnes started the final four games of the season after C Scott Wells suffered a fractured fibula. He was pushed around in the run game and is merely a backup. Davis served as Kellen Clemens’ backup after Sam Bradford tore his ACL.

    Rams released C Tim Barnes.
The Rams are remaking their offensive line, and Barnes’ play wasn’t close to good enough the past two years. According to Pro Football Focus, only Browns mega-bust Cameron Erving was worse at the pivot last season. Going on 29, former UDFA Barnes will hunt for work as a reserve guard/center.
  • FA Center #61
49ers signed C Tim Barnes, formerly of the Rams.
Barnes started all 32 games for the Rams the previous two seasons but was among the first cuts under new coach Sean McVay. He’s a fringe NFL player who shouldn’t be anywhere near any team’s starting lineup.

Free agent C Tim Barnes will work out for the 49ers on Tuesday.
Barnes started all 32 games for the Rams the previous two seasons but was always one of the weakest players at his position. The new coaching staff opted for veteran John Sullivan as the Rams’ new center. Barnes shouldn’t be viewed as anything more than interior depth wherever he signs.

    49ers released C Tim Barnes.
Barnes started 32 games for the Rams over the last two seasons, but he could not beat out Daniel Kilgore for the starting job. He is good enough to land a backup job somewhere.

Barrett Jones, Tim Barnes and Demetrius Rhaney are splitting reps at center with the Rams’ first-team offense.
With Scott Wells gone, the Rams are holding a true open competition. “We’re not going to make a decision real early. We’ll let them all play. We’re rotating them,” coach Jeff Fisher said. “We’ll make that decision when somebody shows us he’s earned the job.” A 2013 fourth-round pick, Jones has the draft pedigree to win the job, but injuries have limited him to just 23 career snaps. Barnes has more experience with four career starts, but he has struggled when asked to play significant snaps. A seventh-round pick last year, Rhaney spent his rookie season on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury in training camp.
