Chargers signed G/C Rex Hadnot to a one-year contract.

The Cardinals released Hadnot in March due to his hefty salary and underwhelming play. A 16-game starter in 2011, the versatile Hadnot will provide the Chargers with depth at all three positions on the interior line and will push Tyronne Green for the starting left guard job.

Streamlining his body at LeCharles Bentley’s O-Line Academy in Cleveland, Green is 25 pounds lighter than when he arrived at training camp out of shape last summer. Green is entering the final year of his rookie contract, so his play this season will determine whether he nails down a long-term job.

Chargers GM A.J. Smith confirms new G/C Rex Hadnot will push Tyronne Green for the starting left guard job.

“He will be in the mix for the open left guard spot,” said Smith. “That’s heavy competition right there.” Hadnot graded out as one of the league’s poorer guards by Pro Football Focus in Arizona last season, but did rate better than Green, who made only eight starts. It will be a battle to watch in Bolts camp.

Green first went down in Week 11, and missed Week 12. The Bolts also lost RT Jeromey Clary against the Bengals, and could be severely shorthanded along the line in Week 14. Rex Hadnot will get the call if Green can’t suit up.

Green was just picked up by the team two weeks ago, but didn’t show enough to warrant keeping around. The 2009 fourth-round pick does have 28 starts under his belt, but he graded out poorly in 2012 and is considered a liability in the run game. He’ll likely land on another roster to compete as a backup.

Chargers LG Kris Dielman (concussion) acknowledged that he will miss Monday’s game.

In addition to the concussion in last week’s game against the Jets, Dielman also had a Gran Mal seizure on the flight home from New Jersey. He’s now expected to miss at least two games. Tyronne Green will start in Dielman’s place against the Chiefs.
