The No. 72 pick in last year’s draft, Wilson saw limited action as a rookie. Newcomer Chris Chamberlain will work on the weak side and a potential Jonathan Vilma suspension would keep Curtis Lofton in the middle. Wilson will compete with Will Herring and possibly Scott Shanle for starter’s snaps on the strong side. It’s the 23-year-old’s job to lose.

Herring suffered the injury in Week 17. Rookie Nate Bussey is expected to be promoted from the practice squad to take his place. A backup and special teamer, Herring recorded just nine tackles in the first season of a three-year contract.

The six-year veteran was just released by the Saints nine days ago because he was due $1.6 million in 2013. Herring, a pure special teams player, likely signed back on for the veteran minimum.

A six-year veteran, Herring has made just nine career starts. The special teamer was due $1.6 million between salary and bonuses.

According to reporter Todd Archer, Herring didn’t fail a physical. Herring is back to looking for work as a special teamer.

Herring, 30, is purely a special teamer who will backup at outside linebacker.

He’s probably just a special teamer at this point. The Auburn product could be looking at a position change, as he’s undersized to play linebacker in the NFL. Herring does have experience at safety from his early college days.
