Reks

Reks has spent the last two years overseas in Korea after getting into 22 games for the Rangers and Dodgers from 2021 to 2022. The 30-year-old outfielder will likely open the year at Triple-A El Paso as extra organizational depth for San Diego.

Reks gets $1 million in salary, $200,000 from a signing bonus and the potential to earn $100,000 more in bonuses. The 29-year-old signed with the Giants after being designated for assignment by the Reds in July.

Reks was designated for assignment by the Rangers on July 16, and he’ll elect free agency after not being claimed to find his new home in the KBO. The 28-year-old has clobbered Triple-A pitching, but hasn’t found success in the majors. He’ll get a chance to show what he can do at the international level.

Reks has torn the cover off the ball at the Triple-A level this season, but hasn’t been able to carry that success over into the majors. The 28-year-old outfielder has hit just .265 (9-for-34) with three RBI in 34 plate appearances over 16 games this year in his Rangers debut. There could potentially be some interest on waivers in the next few days.

Reks has posted just a .559 OPS through 16 games this season at the big league level.

Reks has been summoned from the minors to replace rookie outfielder Steele Walker on the Rangers’ active roster ahead of Saturday’s game against the White Sox. The 28-year-old outfielder has dominated at the Triple-A level this season, but has just five hits in 22 at-bats in the majors this year.

Reks was up briefly with the Rangers earlier this season and has crushed the ball at Round Rock with a 1.056 OPS and five homers. He should see some starts in left field against right-handers.

Reks went 4-for-14 with six strikeouts during his nearly two-week stay on the Rangers’ active roster. Kolby Allard has been called up from the Triple-A level on Wednesday in a corresponding move.

Reks failed to land a spot on the Rangers’ season-opening roster, but wound up hitting .283/.387/.415 with one steal in 62 plate appearances at the Triple-A level so far this season. The versatile 28-year-old can fill-in at a couple spots defensively and gives Texas some extra bench flexibility.

The Rangers have 47 players left in major-league camp after jettisoning Reks to the minors. The versatile 28-year-old was scooped up off waivers from the Dodgers during the offseason after appearing in six games at the big-league level last season.
