The Redskins are “intrigued” by S Akeem Davis and are “anxious to see more” from him.
Davis was initially signed as an undrafted free agent last year by the Seahawks, but didn’t make a practice squad or active roster. The Redskins scooped him up in April. At Memphis’ Pro Day, Davis (6'/201) ran a blazing 4.37 forty and posted an explosive 39 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-6 broad jump. The Redskins have a weak safety group. Davis will have to show he can cover kicks to make it.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
    Redskins signed S Akeem Davis.
Davis signed with the Seahawks after going undrafted out of Memphis last spring, but didn’t crack the final roster. He joins an ugly Redskins safety unit that lists Brandon Meriweather/Ryan Clark as starters, and Phillip Thomas/Bacarri Rambo as backups. Davis will fight with the likes of Jose Gumbs and Trenton Robinson for a spot.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
    Redskins signed S Akeem Davis.
Davis’ initial deal was voided, but the sides needed less than 24 hours to get their paperwork in order. A 2013 undrafted free agent, Davis will compete for one of the Redskins’ final roster spots.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
The Redskins’ contract with S Akeem Davis has been disapproved by the NFL.
Davis returns to free agency for the moment, but figures to be “re-signed” when the sides get their paperwork in order. Washington signed Davis late last week to compete for a reserve safety job and contribute on special teams.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
Redskins promoted S Akeem Davis from the practice squad.
The Redskins were reportedly “intrigued” by Davis in the offseason, but he didn’t show enough in camp to crack the team’s shaky safety corps. He’ll contribute on special teams if he’s active on Sundays.
  • FA Defensive Back #35
Redskins waived S Akeem Davis and CB Richard Crawford.
Both reserve defensive backs were primarily contributing on special teams.
