Davis

Davis was initially signed as an undrafted free agent last year by the Seahawks, but didn’t make a practice squad or active roster. The Redskins scooped him up in April. At Memphis’ Pro Day, Davis (6'/201) ran a blazing 4.37 forty and posted an explosive 39 1/2-inch vertical and 10-foot-6 broad jump. The Redskins have a weak safety group. Davis will have to show he can cover kicks to make it.

Davis signed with the Seahawks after going undrafted out of Memphis last spring, but didn’t crack the final roster. He joins an ugly Redskins safety unit that lists Brandon Meriweather/Ryan Clark as starters, and Phillip Thomas/Bacarri Rambo as backups. Davis will fight with the likes of Jose Gumbs and Trenton Robinson for a spot.

Davis’ initial deal was voided, but the sides needed less than 24 hours to get their paperwork in order. A 2013 undrafted free agent, Davis will compete for one of the Redskins’ final roster spots.

Davis returns to free agency for the moment, but figures to be “re-signed” when the sides get their paperwork in order. Washington signed Davis late last week to compete for a reserve safety job and contribute on special teams.

The Redskins were reportedly “intrigued” by Davis in the offseason, but he didn’t show enough in camp to crack the team’s shaky safety corps. He’ll contribute on special teams if he’s active on Sundays.

Both reserve defensive backs were primarily contributing on special teams.
