The Clemson Tigers are suddenly more appetizing in the college football futures market.
After losing a double-overtime thriller 47-40 at Notre Dame without starting quarterback Trevor Lawrence, Clemson fell from +175 to +300 to win the national championship at PointsBet Sportsbook. A $100 bet would win $300 and pay out $400.
Alabama is the favorite at +175, then Ohio State checks in at +225.
I’m definitely intrigued by Clemson’s price and it’s likely a number we’ll never see again this season. Assuming Lawrence returns to the fold for the Tigers’ next game at Florida State on Nov. 21, Dabo Swinney‘s squad will be heavy favorites in their final three games. They’ll also be over a touchdown favorite against the Irish in a potential ACC Championship matchup.[[ad:athena]]
The more they win down the stretch, the more the price will go back down.
Futures bets should always be about betting the right team at the right price. We posed the question to you late last week about taking Notre Dame +600 to win the ACC. If you made that bet, you’re feeling a whole lot better today because the odds have been slashed almost in half. PointsBet is now dealing the Irish at +350 right now after the shocker in South Bend.
Right price, right time.
Oddsmakers still fully believe in Clemson to win the ACC. They’re -500 favorites to take care of business in the conference title game. And with Lawrence under center, the Tigers would likely be favored against every team in the country in the national semifinal or national championship. One Vegas sportsbook told NBC Sports last month that they would line Clemson vs. Alabama as a PK, but I’m just a smidge higher.
If you bet Clemson now and they win out in four straight games with arguably the best player in college football, you’ll have +300 in your back pocket heading into the College Football Playoff. And you can get as creative as you want with hedge opportunities down the road.
