Jon Rahm isn’t beginning the Tour Championship with a head start, even though the betting markets would make you think otherwise.
Rahm is slotted in the No. 4 slot among the 30-man field gathered for this week’s season finale at East Lake Golf Club. With the Tour implementing a “starting strokes” formula for the third straight year, that means he’ll tee off at 6 under: ahead of most of the competition but still four shots behind leader Patrick Cantlay, two behind Tony Finau and a shot back of Bryson DeChambeau.

But Rahm is the clear leader in the market at PointsBet Sportsbook that examines just the 72-hole score this week in Atlanta, and bettors expect him to make up the gap against Cantlay without breaking much of a sweat. He has actually moved to outright betting favorite in the market that incorporates the starting strokes, meaning that Rahm (+350) is listed ahead of Cantlay (+375) despite spotting him one shot per round.
The Spaniard has been heavily bet all week at PointsBet, where he makes up a massive chunk of both the ticket count (total bets placed) and overall handle (total money wagered):
Tour Championship leaders by ticket count (via PointsBet)
1. Jon Rahm (+350, 23.8% of tickets)
2. Tony Finau (+700, 9.2%)
3. Patrick Cantlay (+375, 9.2%)
4. Justin Thomas (+1600, 8.7%)
5. Bryson DeChambeau (+550, 6.8%)

The gap gets even wider when looking at handle figures, as nearly one out of every three dollars wagered this week has gone on Rahm to win the $15 million top prize:
Tour Championship leaders by handle (via PointsBet)
1. Jon Rahm (+350, 32.5% of handle)
2. Tony Finau (+700, 10.5%)
3. Patrick Cantlay (+375, 10.2%)
4. Justin Thomas (+1600, 7.1%)
5. Bryson DeChambeau (+550, 7.0%)
It’s no surprise, then, to see that Rahm is the top liability this week - and by a wide margin.

1. Jon Rahm (+350)
2. Cameron Smith (+2500)
3. Xander Schauffele (+3300)
