Memorial Park Golf Course bit back on Saturday as the leaderboard has tightened heading into tomorrow’s final round. What started as a 10-under lead has shrunk to 7-under as those at the top struggled to maintain their momentum.

The final group of Martin Trainer, Kevin Tway, and Adam Long shot a combined 10-over in Round 3 to let much of the field back into the tournament. Taking advantage of the leaders’ mishaps were a pair of budding stars in Scottie Scheffler and Matthew Wolff.

Not without troubles of their own – namely Wolff’s inexplicable double-bogey on the 17th - the two each carded rounds of 1-under 69. While it appeared late the Oklahoma State product would take the lead into the final day of play, his potentially costly blunder left the door open for the native Texan.

Possessing the 54-hole lead for only the second time in his career, Scheffler will look to break through for his first career win on the PGA Tour. A once decorated amateur, previous Rookie of the Year winner, and Ryder Cup participant, this moment has been long in the making for the 25-year-old.

With conditions fairly different from a day ago, Scheffler gave his thoughts on his third round. The former Longhorn said, “I’m fairly satisfied with my round. I kept myself in position. Things were kind of getting a little iffy there for me for a little bit. I felt like I was playing good golf and I was 1-over through 13 holes and I felt like I was playing a lot better than that. Definitely nice to make a few birdies down the stretch to get things back in the red.”

Our friends at PointsBet Sportsbook have Scheffler as the clear-favorite heading into tomorrow’s final round. At +250, he leads a large contingent of players with ties not only to Texas, but also to Oklahoma State University.

On our end, it was yet another disappointing moving day as all of our pre-tournament wagers went in the wrong direction. It was there for Patrick Reed, Max Homa, or Keith Mitchell to get back into the tournament, but unfortunately was not meant to be. I begrudingly bought into some of Wyndham Clark in the middle of Round 3 at +12500 given our pre-tournament top-20 play, but we will look elsewhere for a final round wager.

Round 4 Plays (Odds Via PointsBet):

Keith Mitchell (+900 to finish inside the top-10):

While he let us down on Saturday, I am willing to chance Mitchell gets it together tomorrow. In his third round, the former Georgia Bulldog got off to an ideal start. 2-under through his first six holes, Mitchell’s ship then began to take on water and was never able to resurface.

A bogey on No. 7 was not the end of the world as the long par-3 played difficult for most. However, a pull hooked wedge on the following hole led to a double-bogey on a gettable par-5, fully derailing his day. Recovery would not happen, despite his best efforts as the 29-year-old gave himself plenty of birdie looks on the inward nine.

Eventually carding a round of 3-over 73, Mitchell now sits in a tie for 22nd at 1-under and three-strokes outside the top-10. Eighth in Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green, the 2019 Honda Classic winner ranks third in SG: Off-the-Tee and 11th in SG: Around-the-Green. A few very poor iron shots have skewed his approach numbers and if able to avoid those loose swings tomorrow, he should be in good shape as I expect a bounce back with the putter.
