As we enter the final weeks of the regular season, it seems inevitable that the decades long drought will end on the Great NorthWest. The Seattle Mariners are in position to make the playoffs for the first time since they lost to the New York Yankees in the ALCS in 2001. Third baseman Eugenio Suárez (31 HRs) and A.L. Rookie of the Year favorite Julio Rodriguez (Top 20 OPS of 0.846) lead the offense while Logan Gilbert (13 wins) and Juan Castillo (2.37 ERA) lead the pitching staff.
The Mariners have traveled down the Left Coast and are at Oakland tonight to face the Athletics. The A’s are the definition of struggling. At the plate in September, Oakland is hitting .220. That is the second worst average in the American League this month. The good news…the Mariners are hitting a paltry .213 this month. The difference between these teams is on the mound where the A’s are dead last in MLB with a 6.93 ERA in September while the Mariners rank 3rd in baseball with a 2.58 ERA this month.
In Colorado, the Rockies host the San Francisco Giants. Today’s game features right-hander John Brebbia (6-2) taking the mound for the Giants against lefty Kyle Freeland (9-9). Center Fielder Yonathan Daza is the hottest hitter in Denver with a .364 average over the last two weeks. The Giants are led of late by Thairo Estrada. The second baseman is hitting .289 over the last couple of weeks. More the story of late has been the struggles at the plate for San Fran’s Mike Yastremski (.196) and Wilmer Flores (.157).
Tonight, on the diamond the EDGE MLB analysts have done a deep dive into the odds markets for these two MLB games. They have found two plays from each game. They are going head-to-head in a duel of sorts to see which game can produce a bigger payday.
The EDGE team of MLB analysts have paired up as follows: John Venezia (@_JohnnyVTV) and Vaughn Dalzell (@VmoneySports) have joined for Parlay #1 and Drew Silva (@drewsilv) and DJ Short (@djshort) have combined efforts for Parlay #2.
As mentioned, enjoy the plays individually or as parlays…with a boost courtesy of PointsBet.
Parlay #1: Seattle Mariners @ Oakland Athletics
Seattle Mariners RL -1.5 (-125) @ Oakland Athletics
and
Luis Castillo Over 6.5 Ks (-205) @ Oakland Athletics
Parlay Boosted from +160 to +185 courtesy of PointsBet.
John Venezia (@_JohnnyVTV) and Vaughn Dalzell (VmoneySports):
Luis Castillo has been pumping since he got picked up by Seattle with a 2.84 ERA in 8 starts. Four of his five starts that resulted in team wins have been by at least two runs. Last time Castillo pitched in Oakland (8/21) he got hit hard for four runs over five innings. That does not happen twice in a row to Castillo, especially with Seattle closing in on their first playoff berth in 20 years.
Luis Castillo has recorded seven or more strikeouts in six out of eight starts with the Mariners and went six or more innings in six of those eight starts as well.
He has a prime matchup against the Oakland A’s, a squad he only totaled five Ks in his first and only career meeting against Oakland. This time around Castillo should fare better. He will be facing an A’s team that is hitting .188 over the last five games (28th) with the second-most strikeouts (67) in those five games. That is correct – 67 in five games. Our model has 7.0 Ks on the nose.

Parlay #2: San Francisco Giants @ Colorado Rockies
Colorado Rockies Team Total OVER 5.5 (-115) vs. San Francisco Giants
and
C.J. Cron OVER 0.5 RBI (+100) vs. San Francisco Giants
Parlay Boosted from +190 to +225 courtesy of PointsBet.
Drew Silva (@drewsilv) and DJ Short (@djshort):
This might seem like a lot to ask of the Rockies’ offense, but they just put up seven runs on 16 hits in Monday’s series opener, and the Giants are going with a bullpen game on Tuesday night at Coors Field. Colorado is 24-48 with a combined .621 OPS on the road this year but 40-35 with a combined .808 OPS at home. It shakes out as another high-scoring affair as both of these teams continue to simply play out the string.
I will piggyback Drew’s pick here and go with C.J. Cron to record an RBI (+100) against the Giants tonight. It is true that Cron has dropped off considerably in the second half, but he has continued to drive in runs. He has 12 this month despite hitting just .203 with a .733 OPS. Not surprisingly, most of that production has come at home. Cron has driven in 72 of his 98 runs at Coors Field this season, including one in a three-hit game on Monday. With the Giants piecing things together with their pitching staff on Monday, Cron should have chances to climb closer to the 100-RBI mark for the first time in his career.

Enjoy the night in baseball and enjoy the Late Sweat Duel.
