Clyde Edwards-Helaire O/U 48.5 Rushing Yards vs. Chargers

Patrick Mahomes dropped back in 63% of snaps in Week 1 versus the Cardinals and mind you, that was a 44-21 blowout.

Kansas City will rely on Mahomes more than ever this season and we saw that in Week 1.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire (CEH) was on the field for 39% of the offensive snaps and 45% in the first-half, so he wasn’t even on the field half of the time as the starting running back. Jerick McKinnon recorded 38% of the snap shares and Isiah Pacheco totaled 25.4% of the snaps, per PlayerProfiler.

It’s going to be more of a committee in Kansas City, but Pacheco will be the definite No. 3 based on when the snaps came. In CEH’s three career games versus the Chargers, CEH has 38, 100 and 32 rushing yards. He had 17 carries in the 100-yard game, plus 9 and 10 in the games of 38 or fewer rushing yards.

The Chargers added Khalil Mack to the defensive line and held the Raiders’ Josh Jacobs to 57 rushing yards on 10 carries and 65 total rushing yards overall. Los Angeles picked off Derek Carr three times in that game and sacked him five times, so the Chargers defense came out hot, unlike the Cardinals.

I don’t see CEH getting 12-plus rushing attempts in this game and could see Mahomes having a larger role in the ground game. CEH carried the ball seven times for 42 rushing yards in Week 1 and I anticipate the Chiefs to throw a similar amount against the Chargers.

CEH was 6-4 to the Under 48.5 rushing yards last season and compared to 7-6 to the Under in 2020.

I grabbed CEH Under 48.5 rushing yards at -113 odds to the Under on FanDuel. I’d play this down to 45.5.

Pick: Clyde Edwards-Helaire Under 48.5 Rushing Yards (1u)
