At first, I thought it was a typo. 252 ways to wager on a football game?!
The times they are a-changin’.
Long gone are the days of only being able to wager on your typical pregame bets like the side, moneyline and total. PointsBet Sportsbook‘s trading team has calculated over 250 different ways to bet on tonight’s NFL season opener between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans.
“It’s a constant process for us and it’s something we’re always looking to expand,” PointsBet Sportsbook senior sports analyst Andrew Mannino told NBC Sports. “A lot of the guys in the trading room are bettors so we’re looking for things we want to bet on. We’re always looking for more interesting markets and betting options.”[[ad:athena]]
I actually didn’t make any picks on tonight’s game – much to the disappointment of my friends and foes – but man, some of these are staring me right in the face. And it’s legal!
The usual exotics include bets like Over-Under 308.5 passing yards for for stud quarterback Patrick Mahomes. (That number is too high for my liking). How about Mahomes to throw three interceptions at 22-to-1? Hmmmm. It probably won’t happen, but if it does… wowza.
Other exotics:
Will any quarter be scoreless? Yes +570.
Will there be a fourth quarter comeback? Yes +400.
Texans to win the game wire-to-wire? Yes +800.
Deshaun Watson to score the first touchdown? Yes +1400.
First drive outcome? Punt -142, TD +215, FG +420, Turnover +700.
The options feel endless.
“If you’re not comfortable with the total, you can look at team total in a half or quarter,” Mannino explained. “If you don’t like a quarterback’s passing yards, you can bet on his fantasy points. We try to put as many different ways for people to get involved in the game as possible.”
So how is the action on tonight’s game?
“The handle is fantastic,” Mannino said while clearly smiling. “We’re already ahead of where we were last year on opening night. We need the Texans in a big way and we need the Under. It’s very one-sided action on the Chiefs and the Over. We’ll be pulling for the upset.”
