Finding the right teaser for Week 11

Deshaun Watson

Deshaun Watson

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

We lost our third NFL teaser in 10 weeks last Sunday with the Seahawks and Ravens. Baltimore somehow lost outright at New England on Sunday Night Football. Hmmm... I guess we should fire another one this weekend. Those are the rules.

If you’re new around here, a teaser is a bet that allows you to adjust the point spread six points whichever way you choose. You must select a minimum of two bets, but you have to win all the bets in the teaser to cash the ticket.

While some people like to maximize their payout and do four or five-team teasers, your chances of winning get increasingly more difficult with every extra team you add. I’ll stick with the standard two-teamer and tease through the most important numbers in football – 3 and 7.[[ad:athena]]

The Houston Texans have not been a very popular team to bet on this season. I would actually argue that they’re much more bettable since pulling the pin on head coach Bill O’Brien. Houston is 2-and-3 since that joyous day and two of the three losses were extremely close. They took Tennessee to overtime and lost by six and fell to the Browns last Sunday by three.

Now Houston gets New England, fresh off their surprising win on Sunday Night Football over Baltimore. Nobody wanted to bet the Patriots in that game, but now people are moving mountains to lay them as a short road favorite. It’s funny how that works. The Pats literally morphed from the sharp underdog to the public favorite in one week.

I still want more points, so let’s tease! Let’s take the Texans from +2 through a slew of key numbers. We’ll go through the 3, 4, 6 and 7 up to +8. Deshaun Watson should have a pretty productive day against that depleted defense. All they’ve got to do is keep it close and we’ll be okay.

For the second leg, I’m going to fade one of my biggest money makers this year. That’s right, it’s time to go against the Miami Dolphins. The Fish are one of the most public sides on the entire board and they’re laying 3.5 points on the road in Denver. According to Rotoworld’s Edge Finder, it’s only the third time in five seasons that Miami has been road chalk.

Wowza.

The Dolphins (7-and-2 ATS) are actually tied with the Steelers for the best spread team in the league. This is great if you’ve been betting them, but not so great if you’re late to the party. Now you’ll be paying a premium on Miami the rest of the way. Rookie quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Co. are getting over 70 percent of the bet tickets at multiple American sportsbooks.

Let’s capitalize on the overcorrection in the betting market and tease Denver at home on a chilly November day at Mile High. I don’t even care if it’s Drew Lock or Brett Rypien at quarterback, it’s a play against the inflated number. Kick the Broncos and that stingy defense from +3.5 through 4, 6, 7, 8 all the way up to +9.5. It feels even better to get those extra points in a game with a total of 45.

Tease the Texans +8 to the Broncos +9.5.
