Finding the right teaser for Week 6

Last week’s teaser came through on the Rams and Panthers, so obviously we need to fire another one this weekend. Those are the rules.

If you’re new around here, a teaser is a bet that allows you to adjust the point spread six points whichever way you choose. You must select a minimum of two bets, but you have to win all the bets in the teaser to cash the ticket.

While some people like to maximize their payout and do four or five-team teasers, your chances of winning get increasingly more difficult with every extra team you add. I’ll stick with the standard two-teamer and tease through the most important numbers in football – 3 and 7.

I love betting on great coaches in advantageous spots. The New England Patriots have had almost two weeks to stew over a 26-10 loss to Kansas City. We all know Bill Belichick immediately went into the lab and started preparing for Denver.

Cam Newton and Stephon Gilmore are both expected to play for the Pats this weekend, which will give an already motivated football team an extra jolt on both sides of the ball.

The handicap is simple here – Belichick’s defense is going to eat Drew Lock for lunch. I’ve got it 27-13 Patriots, but the teaser makes it a whole lot easier to bet. Let’s take New England down from -9.5 through 7, 6, and 4 to -3.5. I’ll rock with that all day.

For the second leg, I’m turning to Sunday Night Football. The entire world will be on the 4-and-1 Los Angeles Rams in this spot. It’s a short road favorite on national television. Around 75 percent of the bets are on L.A. so far and the lopsided action probably won’t stop until kickoff.

Most people will look at the Niners’ 43-17 home loss to Miami last week and bust out the transitive property. If the Dolphins beat the Niners 43-17 and the Rams are better than the Dolphins… the Rams win by… 40?!

Not so fast.

San Francisco was atrocious in that game, but they got punched in the mouth early and just couldn’t recover. It was a sleepy spot against a team they should’ve beaten and they weren’t ready. I bet they’re ready this week for a primetime game at home against the Rams. San Francisco needs to establish the run and let the rest fall into place. A quick touchdown and we should be in business all game. I still want more points, so let’s tease!

We’ll gladly kick up the 49ers from +3.5 through 4, 6, 7 all the way to +9.5. That gives us a whole lot more wiggle room as we’re now getting a divisional underdog catching more than a touchdown at home. And the sportsbooks will desperately need our side.

Let’s cook.

Tease the Patriots -3.5 to the 49ers +9.5.
