Betting the NFL Draft without the Sweat

While the NFL Draft is annually unpredictable, the 2023 edition is shaping up as a bigger mystery than ever. The greater the uncertainty the greater the sweat, though, and that is not for everyone. For those looking for a risk-free opportunity on Day 1 of the NFL Draft, BetMGM is offering a free to play game worth $25,000.

It is a ten-question contest. Let’s dive in and tackle a few of the ten.

The contest starts off with a question about what appears to be the only sure thing in the Draft – the first pick. Let’s cut to the chase and just pencil in Bryce Young of Alabama as the first overall selection.

Sticking with the quarterback theme, the second question asks how many quarterbacks will be selected in Round 1. All mock drafts have either four or five signal-callers going on Day One. If you believe the so-called pundits, the decision left to you is whether or not you believe Hendon Hooker of Tennessee is selected in said Opening Round. For what it is worth, Hooker has come out and said he will be recovered from knee surgery in time for the start of training camp.

The questions then shift to the wide receiver position. Who will be the first wideout selected? Sportsbooks currently list Ohio State’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba as the favorite to be selected first among all pass catchers. No need to argue with the books on this one because he is being touted as at least on par with last year’s first rounders from Ohio State, Chris Olave and Garrett Wilson.

The contest takes a step towards difficult beginning with question 4 which asks for the total number of wide receivers to be drafted in the first round. This year’s depth at the wide receiver position is said to be limited. In comparison to the past few seasons. The majority of mock drafts have anywhere from two to five receivers being selected in the first 31 picks.

The contest continues with a question as to the number of offensive linemen to be drafted on Thursday Night followed by a question asking for the number of defensive linemen to hear their names called Day One. Seems like Paris Johnson of Ohio State is shooting up draft boards which may spark an early run on O-linemen. That could mean an extra lineman or two may sneak into the opening round. Same with defensive linemen. For example, if a team picking in the Top 5 decides the indisputable talent of Georgia’s Jalen Carter outweighs any concerns regarding his work ethic and commitment, the run on pass rushers and run stoppers could start early and result in more than the six or seven projected to go in Round One in most mock drafts.

Before collecting 25K, you still have decisions to make…and know the contest gets even less predictable at the back end. Question 9 asks what position the final player drafted (in the entire Draft) plays. In reviewing the past thirty drafts, there is no one position that dominates that final selection. Maybe Brock Purdy‘s success as Mr. Irrelevant this past season leads the Houston Texans to hope they can duplicate San Francisco’s feat from last season with the final pick in the Draft in 2023.

The last question, however, is a blind throw at the dart board. It asks for the total number of touchdowns passes thrown by all quarterbacks drafted over the course of the seven rounds. Over the last three drafts 32 quarterbacks have been drafted. 2023 mock drafts have anywhere from 11-14 signal callers receiving the call they have dreamed of since they were young boys. The number of touchdowns can be researched. The number of quarterbacks to be drafted can be guessed.

It is a free game. Play it and enjoy a sweat-free 2023 NFL Draft.
