One more time for the first period Over

I can’t believe we’re still getting plus money to bet the first period over in the Stanley Cup Final.

The Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning have blasted over 1.5 goals in all three first periods of the series. They combined to score two goals in the first game and three goals in the last two. We wrote about this trend two days ago and it’s worth another poke tonight in Game 4.

Oddsmakers continue to line the full game total at O/U 5 o-130, which gives us an advantageous line in the first 20 minutes. PointsBet Sportsbook is dealing Over 1.5 first period goals at +115 tonight.[[ad:athena]]

Stylistically, these two teams have played at an unbelievably frantic pace to begin the games. They’ve been flying up and down the ice! It’s been a true showcase of speed, skill and shots on net in the early going. There have been so many grade-A scoring chances, numerous odd man rushes and several juicy rebounds.

Dallas and Tampa players and coaches have discussed at length how important it is to play with pace and how crucial it is to score the first goal. Both clubs want to set the tone early in the game and that gives you tremendous value on a first period over bet.

The mathematics actually help you out too. If the game total was 5.5 or 6, you’re talking about a line of 1.5 goals with heavy juice to the over. It would probably be -175 to bet an over. But because this total sitting at 5 o-130, that makes tonight’s first period over +115.

It’s almost too good to be true.

As we wrote on Wednesday, these teams are smoking hot in the first period. Tampa is 7-and-2 to the Over in their last nine first periods. And if you remove the very slow series against Vegas, Dallas Overs are 11-and-4 in their last 15.

Let’s run it back.

Play on Lightning-Stars Over 1.5 first period goals (+115).
