IDP leaguers should not expect the second-rounder to start right away. He’ll have to wrestle time away from Brian Russell.

The second-round pick lay motionless for a few minutes. He will reportedly be okay, but doesn’t seem to be in contention for a starting spot.

The rookie second-round pick will miss this weekend’s game. He’s lost any chance he had to open the season as a starter. Right now, he’s fourth on the depth chart.

Thought by many as a promising IDP star, Pool has to beat out Sean Jones just to start. Jones has the edge right now.

A promising 2005 second-round pick, Pool served as a backup in his rookie year. Fellow youngster Jones was utilized less but still has a shot.

The Cowboys tried to sign Pool last summer before he opted to return to the Jets. Pool wasn’t wanted back in New York this time around, however, after he made just six starts in 2011. More adept in coverage than against the run, Pool will presumably join Gerald Sensabaugh in the starting lineup in Dallas. Pool played under Cowboys DC Rob Ryan with the Browns in 2009.

This is first sniff of interest Pool has generated. He has been a backup with the Jets for much of the last two seasons, but the Cowboys are desperate for free safety help next to strong safety Gerald Sensabaugh. Right now, Barry Church is their best option but he’s recovering from serious shoulder surgery.

The Cowboys were originally expected to bring back Elam, a Rob Ryan favorite, but he may have priced himself out of the team’s plans. Pool has also played under Ryan and is familiar the scheme.

Pool has yet to practice this week, and coach Rex Ryan isn’t confident that he’ll be able to play Sunday night. Pool has been the third safety behind Jim Leonhard and Eric Smith this season.

Cimini believes re-signing free safeties Jim Leonhard and Brodney Pool will be a low priority in free agency. Leonhard tore his right patellar tendon in December, and could be a candidate to begin 2012 on the PUP list.
