The Dolphins’ 2015 fifth-round pick, Thompson spent 2016 on the Vikings’ practice squad and signed a futures contract in January. Those deals are not guaranteed. Thompson’s little brother Tedric was just drafted by Seattle.

Thompson lit up Minnesota’s Pro Day, running forties in the 4.3-4.4 range to go with explosive vertical (40.5-inch) and broad jumps (10-foot-2). He also managed 21 reps on the bench. Thompson will likely have to translate his athleticism to special teams before getting a shot on defense.

Miami’s fourth-round pick struggled during the preseason, receiving PFF’s 12th-lowest safety grade out of 159 qualifiers. The Dolphins are hoping he’ll clear waivers so they can add him to the practice squad.
