Cal landed a commitment from Kentucky transfer Marcus Lee on Saturday night. He’ll have to sit the 2016-17 season and will have one season of eligibility remaining.
Lee was a top 30 recruit coming out of high school, but after spending his first two seasons with the Wildcats playing very limited minutes, he did not have the impact that he expected to as a junior this past season. The 6-foot-9 power forward averaged just 6.4 points and 6.0 boards during his junior season.
Lee initially entered the NBA Draft, but opted to withdraw his name despite reportedly being offered a guaranteed one-year deal by at least one NBA team.
When Lee picked Kentucky coming out of high school, he picked the Wildcats over Cal. Most assumed that he would wind up with the Golden Bears when he announced his decision to transfer.
