Mid-July usually makes just about college hoops matchup look appetizing. Fans are in the middle of the summer doldrums, dreaming of when guys actually get back on the court.
The pairings for the NIT Season Tip-Off certainly test that.
Aside from a second-round showdown between Virginia Tech and George Mason in Blacksburg, there isn’t much to tantalize.
Top-seed Syracuse should crush Manhattan and the Albany-Brown winner. A Stanford-Fresno State-Colorado State-SMU bracket is a TV nightmare. And Oklahoma State gets Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Oral Roberts and Texas-San Antonio.
By the time four teams reach NYC for the semifinals, people might have forgotten the NIT was even going on.
