Three-star forward down to two Big Ten schools
Minnesota native and 6-foot-9 power forward Alex Illikainen is down to two schools from the Big Ten after two of his other schools took commitments from other players.
According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv, Brewster Academy head coach Jason Smith, Illikainen’s prep school coach, said that his stretch four was down to Iowa and Wisconsin.
Iowa hosted Illikainen for an official visit last week and the forward is scheduled to see Wisconsin next weekend.
Now that Oregon took a commitment from forward Trevor Manuel and Minnesota took a commitment from in-state guard Jarvis Johnson -- putting them at the scholarship limit -- Illikainen is focused on the two Big Ten programs.
“He’s pretty much down to those two,” Smith said to SNY.tv. “Alex has said he’s said pretty content with those two schools. He’s perfectly content with the two schools remaining.”
Illikainen averaged 9.6 points and 4.6 rebounds per game in the EYBL this spring and summer and he shot 43 percent from the three-point line, which is intriguing because of his size.
Rivals lists Illikainen as a three-star prospect and the No. 130 overall player in the 2015 class.
