A.J. Green on early jump to NFL: ‘I don’t know yet’

And, as far as we can tell, he said it with a straight face, too.

A.J. Green had been suspended for the first four games of the season for receiving impermissible benefits, but returned to the playing field last weekend in a loss to Colorado. Whether the junior returns for his senior season in 2011 has been a topic of discussion for months (years?), with most feeling -- and probably rightly so -- that Green will be a three-and-done Bulldog.

According to the All-American receiver, however, that’s not necessarily the case.

“I don’t know yet. But I do feel like I owe some of the fans some more stuff, just missing those four games. So I don’t know,” Green said. “Like I said, I’m gonna sit down with my family whenever the time comes and make the best decision for me.”

That right-now vacillation is a very honorable act -- if not a necessary one given the current state of UGA fans’ psyche -- but, barring a confluence of events involving Green losing all four limbs in a farming accident and NFL teams simultaneously losing every second of game film, Green will be the top-rated receiver on nearly every team’s draft board come April. And he will take advantage of that lofty ranking.

Four-game suspension -- and any subsequent feelings of guilt over the situation -- or not, Green’s career in Athens is quickly coming to an end.

With skills like this...

...how could he not make the early leap to the NFL?
