Given the embarrassment of riches in its backfield stable, this likely doesn’t amount to much. Still, it involves the top-ranked team in the country and is worth monitoring.
Wednesday, Nick Saban confirmed that B.J. Emmons will be sidelined indefinitely with a sprained foot. The freshman running back sustained the injury during practice earlier in the week.
Emmons is currently fifth on the Alabama team with 173 yards rushing. The back’s loss could also be felt a bit on special teams as al.com notes that “Emmons has been Alabama’s primary kick returner in recent games.”
Bo Scarborough, fourth on the team with 306 yards rushing, didn’t practice Wednesday either because of what was described as an illness. It doesn’t appear, though, that Saban is too concerned about the unspecified issue.
"[W]e don’t think it’s something that is real serious. But we’ll take it day-to-day,” the coach said.
