The famous trees at Toomer’s Corner at Auburn will be replaced, so fans may once again gather to celebrate wins with a festive TPing of the landmark trees. The university approved plans to move forward with a project to replace the signature trees that were poisoned infamously by an Alabama fan a couple of years ago.
“Our goal all along was to restore the corner with large trees at the earliest opportunity,” said Dan King, assistant vice president for Facilities Management (per Al.com). “Last summer we completed the hardscape to improve aesthetics and the pedestrian experience. The only thing missing was the trees. We think this plan honors the tradition of the historic original oaks.”
The new scene may not look exactly as it once did, but plans including having 30 live oak trees planted along a new brick walkway that will connect Samford Hall to Toomer’s Corner. The trees being planted are actually offspring from the original Auburn oak trees that stood proudly at the hot spot for fans, so the spirit of those trees will live on.
