Auburn trailing FCS Jacksonville State at the half

Are things about to get ugly on The Plains? Or better yet, uglier, as it’s already ugly at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Through two quarters of play, No. 6 Auburn is trailing the FCS’ Jacksonville State 10-6. And it’s not just the score, it’s how Jax State has dominated the Tigers on both sides of the football.

The Gamecocks have outgained their guests 225-152 in total offense. Perhaps even more distressing for a revamped defense under Will Muschamp, Eli Jenkins passed for 182 first-half yards after passing for 882 yards in 14 games -- eight starts -- all of last season.

And then there’s the Jeremy Johnson issue. The quarterback, coming off a three-pick performance in Week 1, tossed another one en route to going just 11-of-18 passing and looking almost lost and/or baffled for most of the first two quarters.

It’s highly doubtful Auburn loses this game. However, regardless of what happens in the second half, there are likely more questions now about this team than there were entering the game.
