Last summer the Auburn Tigers were being praised and heralded as a preseason national title contender by many, but the Tigers were quick to be declawed of their championship aspirations. While Auburn took a back seat to another Alabama national championship run, at least the Tigers have something to cheer about.
Aubie the Tiger, Auburn’s mascot, was crowned national champion mascot at the Universal Cheerleaders Association’s national championships in Florida. So that’s neat.

Aubie topped 10 other Division 1 mascots, including rival Big Al of Alabama. The two other finalists for the top mascot award were Minnesota’s Golden Gophy and Colorado’s Chip. Other schools represented in the mascot competition included FAU, LSU, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Washington State, Wisconsin, and, in the open mascot competition, UAB, Delaware, Liberty and Villanova.
Auburn may not have won a football national championship, but at least Aubue gave fans a reason to smile.
