In a move that should come as a shock to exactly no one, ESPN announced today that their “College GameDay” show will be live in Atlanta opening weekend.
Fowler, Corso, Herbstreit & Company will be on the scene for the Virginia Tech-Alabama game at the Georgia Dome, although not actually right outside the stadium as is the norm.
Instead, they will be down the way a bit broadcasting from the Centennial Olympic Park.
The choice for opening weekend was a no-brainer for the World Wide Leader as, one, it involves two teams ranked in the top ten and, two, the game is being televised by ABC.
Realistically, the only two other choices for ESPN that weekend were Oklahoma-BYU at the brand new Dallas Stadium and Georgia-Oklahoma State in Stillwater. The former had to have been a very attractive option for the network, but the draw of two top-ten teams likely proved to be too much to overlook.
