As it turns out, an off-field incident that cost one Auburn football player his spot on the team goes a little deeper into the Tigers program than previously thought.
Back in late April, defensive end Elijah Daniel and two other former AU student-athletes -- walk-on linebacker DeNorris James and former track walk-on Khalil Sellers -- were charged with theft of property and burglary, four counts of each for Daniel and five counts of each for the other two. Daniel was indefinitely suspended and ultimately dismissed from the football program because of the charges.
One of the alleged victims in the caper, al.com now reports, is sophomore wide receiver Stanton Truitt, who allegedly had an Apple Macbook laptop and Tag Heuer watch stolen from him by the trio. Those two items alone are valued at over $2,500.
The online newspaper also writes "[a]mong the other items Daniel, James and Sellers are accused of stealing from four other victims are multiple Xbox 360 game consoles and video games, an Xbox One game console and games, designer watches and cologne, according to court documents.” Those same court documents show that James admitted to his role in the robberies and subsequently flipped on both Daniel and Sellers and implicated each of them for their roles.
Daniel’s attorney tells the website that his client is “looking to end up somewhere else and move past this.”
