Despite the speculation, Darnay Holmes won’t be No. 64 bolting Westwood.
Over the past couple of weeks, there have been rumors that Holmes was seriously considering transferring. So many, in fact, that Holmes’ father felt the need to go public and label as “completely false” reports that the portal is in his son’s future.
Instead of leaving in the here and now, Greg Biggins of 247Sports.com tweeted, the true junior defensive back’s “plan is to play out the season, [assess] his NFL draft stock and decide whether to leave early or come back and play his senior year at #UCLA next fall.”

Holmes, rated as the No. 3 cornerback and No. 4 player at any position in the state of California in the Class of 2017, had started 23 games during his first two seasons with the Bruins, including all 12 last year. After leading the team (for the second straight season, incidentally) in interceptions with three and tying for fifth in the Pac-12 in passes defensed with 14, Scott earned honorable mention all-conference honors in 2018.
This season, an ankle injury sidelined Holmes for the first two games. His one interception in 2019 is tied for the team lead.
Arguably what’s most impressive about Holmes, though, is his work in the classroom.
A five-star 2017 signee, Holmes enrolled early at UCLA to get a headstart on both his athletic and academic career. Just a little over two years later, we noted in August, Holmes has already his bachelor’s degree in African-American studies.
