Devastating: Northwestern’s Persa suffers season-ending injury

Any and all of giddiness being felt in Northwestern’s locker room following their 21-17 upset of Iowa was likely swiftly sucked right out of the room upon hearing the sobering news.

The Wildcats have lost their starting quarterback.

On the same play Dan Persa tossed the game-winning touchdown with 1:22 left to play, the junior ruptured his Achilles tendon. Needless to say, Persa will be lost for the rest of the year.

Evan Watkins will become the Wildcats’ starter in place of Persa, who entered today’s game as the Big Ten’s No. 3 QB in passing efficiency. The freshman has thrown seven passes this season.
