Monday, Florida head coach Will Muschamp labeled Jeff Driskel as doubtful for this weekend’s game against Jacksonville State.
Two days later, the Gators’ starting quarterback has been downgraded.
On the weekly SEC coaches’ teleconference Wednesday, Muschamp officially ruled Driskel out for Saturday due to an ankle injury. As a result, backup Jacoby Brissett will get the start.
“I"ve got a lot of confidence in Jacoby,” the coach said on the call, “and it’s his opportunity. I’m looking forward to seeing him play.”
Muschamp added that he expected Driskel back for the regular-season finale against Florida State, although an official determination won’t be made until some point next week.
