The odd saga that is Dalton Wood‘s collegiate career will apparently include another chapter set in Norman.
Back in June, it was reported that Wood, a member of Oklahoma’s most recent recruiting class, had abruptly left the OU campus shortly after reporting for the start of summer workouts. He was removed from the Sooners’ official roster in August, and his collegiate future has been up in the air ever since.
Thursday, Wood revealed to his hometown newspaper, the McAlester News-Capital, that he will be returning to the Sooners in January. However, this time around, it’ll be as a walk-on instead of as a scholarship player.
“I have to walk on and earn it,” a text from the tight to the News-Capital read.
There has been no confirmation from OU on the status of Wood, although the newspaper reports that he’s still listed as an enrolled freshman in the university’s student database.
Wood was a three-star member of OU’s 2015 recruiting class, rated as the No. 8 player at any position in the state of Oklahoma. If/when he returns to the Sooners, he will have four seasons of eligibility remaining plus his redshirt season.
