Ex-Gator Chris Martin headed to JUCO ranks
The decision to leave Florida in June, which came 11 months after deciding to leave Cal, has culminated in Chris Martin transferring to a junior college to continue his collegiate football career, Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post is reporting.
The linebacker has enrolled and will play the 2011 season at defending JUCO champion Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. The official move comes seven months after Martin was arrested on a marijuana possession charge.
“Chris is a special, special athlete,” head coach Nick Bobeck said by way of the Orlando Sentinel. “He would be a very good outside linebacker in an odd-front, but he’ll play end for us. When I talked with him about coming to Navarro, I told him that he can want to play linebacker, but if he comes here, he’s going to put his hand in the grass and rush the quarterback. He was good with that.”
In satisfying the NCAA’s transfer rules, Martin redshirted the 2010 season after moving Florida from Cal.
Martin was rated as the No. 2 defensive end, and the No. 18 player overall, in the country for the 2010 recruiting class.
