Florida State’s Jalen Ramsey declares for NFL Draft

Florida State’s star junior cornerback Jalen Ramsey is heading off to the NFL Draft. Ramsey and FLorida State announced his decision to turn pro Tuesday afternoon with a released statement.

“Today, after having in depth discussions with my parents, my coaches and others whom I hold dear to my heart, I am announcing my decision to pursue my dream, forgo my senior year of football at Florida State and declare for the 2016 NFL Draft,” Ramsey said in the statement.

“I’m extremely happy for Jalen and his family,” Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher said. “I think it is a very smart decision by him. He will be a tremendous pro. He was an outstanding player and leader for us. I cannot say enough good things about him. I wish him nothing but the best and he will always be a part of the Florida State family.”

Ramsey was the first true freshman to start at defensive back for the Seminoles since Deion Sanders and he went on to start in 41 games for Florida State. Ramsey was a part of Florida State’s national championship two seasons ago as well as back-to-back ACC championship teams and leaves Florida State with multiple accolades in football including First Team All-ACC and All-America honors. He was also a star in track and field for Florida State, earning All-American honors in the long jump and finishing fourth in the 2015 NCAA Indoor Championships in the long jump event.
