Former Boise State kicker Kyle Brotzman ends up on AFL roster

Under normal circumstances, a former college place kicker signing with an Arena Football League team is hardly newsworthy, but considering it’s Boise State’s Kyle Brotzman, better known as the guy who missed not one, but two, field goals in the Broncos’ only 2010 loss against Nevada, we’ll make an exception.

Yes, we know that Brotzman’s stellar career at Boise shouldn’t be defined by those two misses; he’s BSU’s (and the WAC’s) all-time leading scorer with 439 career points.

And that’s what landed him a gig at arena football member, the Utah Blaze -- a team that could very well be the future home ex-Florida cornerback Janoris Jenkins (Oh, come on, we had to do it)

“I tend to look at him as more famous than infamous because of what he has accomplished as a player,” said Utah coach Ron James in a press release. “You can’t gauge his career off an unfortunate set of circumstances. He has a very strong leg and he’s a tough kid. We’re really excited to have him here.”

Brotzman, despite the misses, was previously a finalist Lou Groza award given to the nation’s best kicker. He is expected to make his AFL debut Saturday against the Pittsburgh Power.
