Former USC starting QB Max Browne announces transfer to Pitt

Former USC starting quarterback Max Browne made things official on Thursday afternoon that he would be pulling the trigger and transferring to Pitt in January.

Browne announced he would be transferring earlier this month but didn’t give many indications as to where that next destination might be. While many expected him to head somewhere out West, he recently took an official visit to the Panthers and it appears he found the right fit even with the team looking for a new offensive coordinator after Matt Canada left for LSU earlier this week.

The signal-caller was one of the top high school quarterbacks in the country and widely considered a five-star prep player back in the day. He was named the Trojans’ starter in August and threw for 507 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions but the team slumped to a 1-2 record during his time under center.

Sam Darnold replaced him against Utah and, after struggling in that first game, helped USC run off eight straight wins and eventually make it to the Rose Bowl.

Browne has already graduated from school and is eligible immediately in 2017. Pitt has a big hole on their depth chart at quarterback with Nathan Peterman and backup Manny Stocker both gone after the Pinstripe Bowl and just a handful of young and inexperienced players slated to return next year.
