With Deondre Francois seemingly entrenched as Florida State’s starting quarterback for at least the next two seasons (probably), Malik Henry has decided a change of scenery is in order.
In a statement sent to 247Sports.com, Henry’s family has confirmed that Henry has elected to transfer from the Seminoles. The true freshman gave no specific reason for his decision to transfer from head coach Jimbo Fisher‘s program.
“I have decided to transfer from Florida State University,” the statement to the recruiting website began. “I want to thank Coach Fisher and his staff for giving me the opportunity to be a student-athlete at FSU. I wish him and the team nothing but success.
“At this time I don’t know what University I will be attending in the future.”
Henry was a four-star 2016 recruit rated as the No. 4 pro-style quarterback in the country. He enrolled early and participated in spring practice, joining a quarterback competition that included Francois and Sean Maguire.
In mid-August, Henry was indefinitely suspended by Fisher for violating unspecified team rules. A month later, he was reinstated. The California native took a redshirt for the 2016 season.
It’s expected Henry will look to move on to a school closer to his home state.
