Fresno State’s bulldog mascot died from a bee sting

Just the other day I told you how awesome live mascots are in college sports, especially dogs. SO you can imagine how tough it can be to let you know that one of those live dog mascots died yesterday. Fresno State’s Victor E. Bulldog II died Thursday from severe anaphylactic shock after being stung by a bee. The two-year-old English bulldog would have turned three next month.

The statement from Fresno State’s athletics department;

“Victor E. attended hundreds of Fresno State events. Everywhere he went, he attracted fans of all ages and was a loving face of Fresno State Athletics,” said Fresno State senior associate athletic director Paul Ladwig. “

More from the university’s release;

“His unexpected passing has left a huge hole in the hearts of all who loved him,” said Fresno veterinarian Dr. Kelly Weaver, who donated Victor E. II to Fresno State. “Victor E. loved people, loved attending Fresno State events and was larger than life when it came to being around big crowds. All of us will miss him tremendously.”

Here’s hoping Victor E. Bulldog II is watching Fresno State football from the great sideline in the sky along with other former live dog mascots.
