Georgia Tech stuns unbeaten FSU with blocked FG return for TD

For the second consecutive week, college football has delivered a wild and unexpected and unbelievable ending that left one side exhilarated and the other shaking their heads in utter disbelief.

Touchdown favorites entering the game, previously unbeaten Florida State was shocked and stunned and shocked again on a late score by a Georgia Tech team that was previously winless in four ACC games. With the score tied at 16-all with just six seconds left, FSU All-American place-kicker Roberto Aguayo‘s 56-yard field goal attempt was blocked by Tech, then returned 78 yards for a touchdown by Lance Austin with no time left to lift the Yellow Jackets to a 22-16 win.

The walk-off return followed FSU actually blowing the game for the first time just a couple of minutes earlier.

Up 16-13 with 2:54 remaining, all that was standing in the way of a Seminole win was a Yellow Jacket fourth-and-six from their own 41-yard line. Run-heavy Tech proceeded to complete a 36-yard pass that not only gave them the first down but set them up in field goal range at the FSU 23. Four plays, Harrison Butker‘s 35-yarder knotted the score at 16 and set the stage for Austin’s heroics.

For Florida State, it was their first loss after opening the 2015 season with six straight wins. It also snapped a 28-game ACC winning streak that was the longest in the country and the second-longest all-time in the conference. FSU’s last league loss came Oct. 6, 2012, to a North Carolina State team that would finish the season 7-6.

With the win, Tech improved to 3-5 in 2015.
