Just two months after twin brother Shaun Prater was arrested on a DUI charge, Shane Prater has decided to leave school and transfer to Iowa Western Community College after failing to make it academically. The decision marks the end of Prater’s career with the Hawkeyes, as he’s made the decision to return to college football elsewhere."With the party life, football and all kinds of stuff going on, it was kid of hard to cope with,” Prater said. “My first semester and summer school were pretty good, but my second semester didn’t go that well. So it was either go to summer school and take a three-week class or go to a juco. I decided to go to a juco so I can pursue my future at another school."Congratulations to Prater for actually being dumb honest enough to be quoted as taking the easy way out.Sure, that summer school obligation and three-week class would have been grueling, but what’s easier than dropping out of a prestigious Big Ten program and lacing up the cleats for the Iowa Western Reivers! Nothing like running from a little adversity and taking on remedial college course work at a place that’ll make classes as easy as possible.Prater might be showing the same excellent judgment his brother showed during his DUI arrest by telling police that bartenders “must have put alcohol in his Coca-Cola.” Shane went from being a honor roll student in high school to being academically ineligible by the end of his freshman year.Still, the Hawkeyes would like to have the talented receiver back with the team, but the decision is up to Prater."I could always go back to Iowa, but I wanted to pursue my future by getting my GPA back up,” Prater said. “They want me to come back, but I’m not sure. We’ll see."Both Prater and his twin brother Shaun signed with the Hawkeyes after winning a state title for Omaha Central. Shaun Prater played last season as a true freshman defensive back while Shane redshirted. This will be the first year the two brothers won’t be teammates since they began playing football.Hopefully the lightbulb finally turns on for Prater at Iowa Western.
