At the time the leader in sacks in the ACC, Duke’s Kenny Anunike suffered a season-ending injury the first month of the 2011 season.
Fortunately for both the player and the program, though, there’s some good news to come out of the situation.
In a press release, the Blue Devils announced Friday evening that the defensive end has been granted a sixth season of eligibility by the NCAA. This is actually the second medical hardship waiver Anunike has received this year; in January, he was granted a fifth season of eligibility.
The first waiver stemmed from a knee injury that cost Anunike his true freshman season in 2008. He will now be eligible to participate in 2012 and 2013.
In a September win over Tulane, Anunike suffered a torn ACL and MCL, leading to the second waiver. At the time of that injury, Anunike was leading the ACC in sacks with four.
