Kevin Wilson completes Hoosiers staff... again

Since becoming Indiana’s head coach in early December, Kevin Wilson has watched as four of the assistants he hired to man his first coaching staff bolt for other jobs.

Wednesday, Wilson replaced the fourth of those assistants, and completed his Hoosiers staff. Again.

The first-year coach announced through a press release yesterday that he has hired Deland McCullough as his running backs coach. McCullough will replace Jemal Singleton, who left Indiana for the same position at Oklahoma State.

McCullough and Wilson know each other quite well as the former was a running back at Miami of Ohio in the mid-nineties while the latter was the school’s offensive coordinator.

“Deland was a great player, is a better person and is on track to be an excellent coach,” Wilson said in a statement. “He is a guy that was on my radar from the start. We have a great relationship dating back to our days together at Miami and Deland is on board with what we want to accomplish.”

“This is a great opportunity with an excellent staff in place, a great leader and excellent facilities.” McCullough said. “I am just thankful that Coach Wilson remembered our relationship, remembered my make up, and thinks that I am a good fit to come in here and help take the running backs to another level.”

McCullough spent last season with his alma mater as an offensive and special teams intern. Prior to that first collegiate coaching job, he had spent the previous decade in the Cincinnati area as a teacher, then head football coach, athletic director and principal.
