LB facing felony charges reinstated by ‘Canes

Suspended nearly three weeks ago following an arrest, linebacker Ramon Buchanan has been reinstated to the football program by head coach Al Golden.

The first-year Miami head coach made the announcement shortly before the team took the field for practice.

“Ramon Buchanan has been reinstated for us and he’ll be practicing today,"Golden said. “He’s taking part in all team activities. He’s done everything that we’ve asked him to do – both me and the athletic department. ...

“Based on my knowledge of the case, and what we know as a university, we feel comfortable reinstating him at this point in time. We’ll reassess as it unveils itself.”

Buchanan was arrested on March 18 following an incident at a Coconut Grove, Fla., bar and hit with a pair of felonies -- resisting a police officer with violence and battery on a police officer, firefighter or emergency medical care provider -- as well as three misdemeanors – trespassing, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.

Golden was uncertain if the felony charges still stand, and added that Buchanan’s reinstatement has no bearing on whether the senior will face a suspension once the season rolls around.

“It has nothing to do with that,’’ Golden said. “Right now we’re reinstating him. Again, he has done everything that we’ve asked him to do, and I’m going to keep those things private in terms of what we asked him to do. But it was a considerable amount of things and it will be ongoing here throughout the summer.”

Buchanan started 10 games for the Hurricanes in 2010.
