LONGSHORE OUT, RILEY IN AS CAL STARTING QB

Cal coach Jeff Tedford says he’ll start Kevin Riley at quarterback in the Golden Bears’ season opener against Michigan State, with two-year starter Nate Longshore coming in off the bench."We feel like both of them have had great camps, but Kevin’s going to take the first snaps and we’ll see how it goes from there,” Tedford said. “Nate will play in the game. I don’t know exactly when, but Kevin will start."Sorry, coach, but I don’t buy that both have had great camps. If Longshore, the senior and returning starter, had had a great camp, he would be the starter. This decision has to mean that Riley, who came off the bench to become the MVP of the Armed Forces Bowl in December, has looked great in camp and Longshore has looked anything but great.Longshore has 5,732 passing yards and 62 touchdowns at Cal. But now he’s a backup.
