You know it’s a conference realignment apocalypse all over again when we’re starting to talk about denials of events that haven’t even occurred yet.
Case in point, the University of Louisville.
The Cardinals currently reside in the Big East, but with another seismic shift in conference affiliations waiting tantalizingly on the horizon, many question what role the BCS’ weakest conference will play in the possible game of musical chairs.
Without getting too ahead of ourselves -- which is going to be hard to do -- it’s generally assumed Big East members not plucked by other conferences would morph into an ACC/Big East marriage of mediocrity.
But with Texas A&M seemingly one foot out the door on their way to the SEC, the Cardinals’ name has popped up more than a couple of times on the rumor mill as a team to possibly land in the Big 12.
Speaking to the Louisville Courier-Journal, however, UL athletic director Tom Jurich said his school likes where it stands conference-wise, although did not deny or confirm one way or the other how the school would react if a call from Dan Beebe came.
Or, how it would react if received a call from Mike Slive.
At this point, Louisville, like many others, is keeping their cards (no pun intended -- okay, intended) close to their chest as they playing the waiting game on conference futures.
