In theory, I guess this is pretty cool. A few lucky students or fans will get to live the life of a media member without the impending deadlines, obligatory WiFi issues and copious amounts of Diet Coke (seriously, that’s all that keeps me going on 11-hour Notre Dame gamedays).
Like everyone in this business, I was a fan before I was a journalist, and the stage fright of talking to these guys is pretty easy to overcome when you realize 1) you have a job to do and 2) they’re humans too.
Hopefully whoever gets picked by the MAC for this doesn’t show up wearing an NIU jersey, though, and isn’t there to just gladhand with his/her favorite players and coaches, since that’d be unfair for the credentialed media there -- sort of the no cheering in the press box rule.
