In somewhat of a surprise move -- surprising as it wasn’t even announced that he was moving -- Southern Illinois announced Monday that its football program has landed a player who is now a former Oregon State Beaver.
The Salukis confirmed via a press release that running back Malcolm Agnew has officially transferred to the school. Agnew’s brother, Ray Agnew, is a SIU fullback.
The back will be eligible to play immediately in 2013 and will have two years of eligibility remaining, with three years to use it as he has yet to burn a redshirt.
Despite playing in just six games as a true freshman in 2011, Agnew led the Beavers in rushing yards (423) and rushing touchdowns (five). Included in that total was a 223-yard, three-touchdown performance in his first-ever game at the collegiate level. Agnew finished his OSU career with 692 yards and six touchdowns.
A three-star member of the Beavers’ 2011 recruiting class, Agnew was rated as the No. 9 player in the state of Missouri that year.
