The deluge of suspension news continues unabated this afternoon, with Michigan the latest to sit a player for its opener.
UM announced via Twitter Saturday afternoon that veteran safety Thomas Gordon has been suspended for one game, with that suspension to be served today against Central Michigan. The defensive back was suspended for violating unspecified team rules, of course.
“It is important that our 115 sons represent this university and program to the high standards we hold,” UM head coach Brady Hoke said in a statement. “But at times, like in society, our kids make poor decisions, and when they do, it breaks your heart.
“With those choices come consequences. Thomas was not accountable to his teammates, and he has learned a valuable lesson from this situation.”
The loss, despite the opponent, will leave a huge hole in the Wolverines’ secondary. The redshirt senior has started 27 of the 35 games he’s played in his UM career. Last season, Gordon started all 13 games at strong safety.
