With a pair of holes on his Virginia coaching staff, Mike London got down to the business of filling them Wednesday.
After reports surfaced earlier in the day, the school confirmed in a press release that London has hired Dave Borbely and Chris Beatty. The former will serve as offensive line coach, the latter running backs coach.
Borbely replaces Scott Wachenheim, who left to become the head coach at VMI. Tom O’Brien announced earlier this month that he is retiring from the sport after spending the 2013 and 2014 seasons as the Cavaliers’ associate head coach for offense and tight ends coach.
“With the departure of two successful, veteran coaches from our staff, it was important to attract coaches with similar qualities to fill their roles,” London said in a statement. “Chris Beatty and Dave Borbely have ties to the state of Virginia and they have a track record of developing talent that will continue to help the program improve.”
The hiring of Borbely is actually a reboot as the he spent 2006-09 as the Cavaliers’ line coach as well as run-game coordinator. He spent the 2014 season as the line coach at Div. II champion Colorado State-Pueblo.
Beatty served as the wide receivers coach at Wisconsin the past two seasons. He’s also had stops at Illinois, Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Northern Illinois during his coaching career.
